Laser Hair Removal

Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal; how does the laser work?

In the late 1990’s, when lasers first came onto the hair removal scene, it didn’t take long to notice that only people with lighter skin were the ideal candidates for laser hair removal. But over time and with the advent of new technology, laser hair removal now has become a reality for many people regardless of skin tone.

The laser works by delving beneath the skin’s surface to attack hair follicles with a low, intense beam of light. Once struck by the laser, the follicle will shut down and stop producing hair permanently. Since the laser is noninvasive, you will never need to worry about cuts, incisions or bandages that you would need with other treatments. The laser works best when the follicle is in the active phase of growth, which is why it will take a few sessions for you to become hair free. Everyone’s hair growth is different, so your technician will be able to provide you with more precise information regarding your unwanted hair and its readiness to leave your body. Come in for a free consultation and get a firsthand look at what laser hair removal can do for you!

Lexington Laser Spa is the only clinic in the area who can provide LaserFast™ hair removal procedures. LaserFast™ treatments have been specially designed to provide very effective and very safe results.

How does laser hair removal differ from electrolysis and is it permanent?

Laser Hair Removal and electrolysis differ on many different levels in spite of the fact that they both can give you permanent hair loss. One big reason to choose Laser Hair Removal is the time factor; it will take only a few minutes, in most cases, to get rid of your hair by laser. Electrolysis, on the other hand, will take months on average to complete a similar treatment. The next big factor is pain. There is virtually no pain with Laser Hair Removal but a lot of pain with electrolysis. There are no bad side-effects with Laser Hair Removal, but electrolysis can leave you with burns or blisters after a session, not to mention the areas can also get infected if not properly treated after your electrolysis session.

How does LaserFast™ hair removal differ from other laser systems?

LaserFast™ hair removal provides a safe and effective treatment. The procedure utilizes the latest technology including the GentleLase Laser by Candela. This laser offers nearly double the spot size (size of the laser pulse) of ordinary lasers. With a wider tip, your laser session will be much shorter than it would be using a smaller device. You also get the added bonus of Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device, as it allows for instant relief from any redness in the treatment area. The Dynamic Cooling Device is attached to the GentleLase to give you the best outcome possible.

What preparation is needed before laser treatment?

For optimal laser results, you should shave your treatment area at least one day before the session. You should keep the area out of the sun for at least two weeks before or after a treatment session. If you absolutely need to head out into the sun, wear sunblock with at least 30 SPF. You will also need to disclose any waxing or tweezing treatments within 6 weeks of your visit so that the technician can schedule accordingly.

What will I look like after the treatment?

Some people experience some redness in the area post treatment. An ice pack will typically provide relief within an hour of applying it. You can also expect the remaining hair to fall out in about ten to twenty days. Following the first treatment you can expect to loose one-fifth of your hair in the area. Subsequent treatments will get rid of remaining hair.

What should I avoid after treatment?

You will have no physical restrictions but should maintain your sunblock for at least two weeks after your last visit. This includes staying away from tanning booths as well.
